Military Diet Challenge.

I came across this well known diet: The Military Diet. This diet promises to lose 10 pounds in three days. Yes, you read correctly, TEN POUNDS IN THREE DAYS! I thought the same thing you are thinking! Heck ya! I can do this! But, wait a minute… is this true??? Does it work?? So, I decided to put this diet to the test and see the results. I’m going to be sharing with you the grocery  list, day by day diet, step by step, before and after weight, and most importantly, the Verdict! Does the Military diet work???? Well, lets see….

Military Diet Grocery List: You will need about $20-$25 for the grocery list, it might be less if you already have some of the items in your pantry. 


  • 4 bread slices 
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 grapefruit 
  • 2 cans of tuna 
  • 2 bananas 
  • 2 apples 
  • 10 crackers 
  • 1 bag or can of green beans 
  • 1 bag or can of carrots 
  • 1 small bag or can of broccoli 
  • Vanilla ice cream 
  • Cottage cheese 
  • Peanut Butter 
  • Cheddar cheese 
  • 2 hot dogs


Breakfast: Half of grapefruit, one  toast and two tablespoons of butter along with a cup of black coffee.

Lunch: Half cup of tuna, slice of toast, water, black coffee or tea.

Dinner: Three ounces of any type of meat, one cup of green beans, half a banana, one small apple and one cup of vanilla ice cream.

Day 2 

Breakfast: One slice of toast, one whole egg and half a banana.

Lunch: One cup of cottage cheese (or one slice of cheddar cheese), 1 hard boiled egg and 4 saltine crackers.

Dinner: Two hot dogs with no buns, 1 cup of broccoli, half a cup of carrots, half a banana and half cup of vanilla ice cream


Day 3

Breakfast: Five saltine crackers, One slice of cheddar cheese and small apple and once cup of black coffee.

Lunch:One slice of toast and one hard boiled egg.

Dinner: One cup of tuna, half a banana and one cup of vanilla ice cream.

Weight loss 

Initial Weight- I weighted myself early in the morning at the beginning of day one. The weight was 356.4 lbs.

Day 2 Weight I stepped in the scale first thing in the morning of  day 2. I weighted 352.4 four pounds less than day one.

Final weight  I stepped in the scale in the morning of day 4 and weighted 347.4 lbs.

VERDICT:  I  did not loose the 10 pounds the diet promised, but I did lose the impressive amount of 9 lbs in three days. As a gastric sleeve patient, the dinner portions were too big for me and I had to divide them in two portions and eat them in periods of two hours. The portions were not an issue for me to control, again my stomach can’t hold more than a cup of food at once. For people that are not gastric sleeve patients, they probably will experience some hunger or a slight headache. Some temptations came across my way, but it was easy to stay strong knowing that the diet is only three days long. Also, it did not bother me at all to enjoy some ice cream at the end of the day. I recommend this diet as a quick fix, probably you have an event coming up or special event happening, but I definitely DO NOT recommend this diet as a long term diet. It lacks balance from all the food groups. After day three I continued with a low carb diet, but more substantial. Eventually my weight balanced out and four days after my weight even up and ended up weighting 350 lbs, pretty much three more pounds. It’s been almost two weeks since the diet and I have been able to keep the weight off. Out of those nine pounds, I kept six pounds.
